Looking from the street, you would probably imagine that Social was just like every other pseudo trendy restaurant popping up in the District with their art-deco furniture and over priced entrées.

You would be correct, except the owners went in a totally different direction.  The restaurant is styled to be reminiscent of a house.  The lower-level which hosts the bar is actually the cellar and the upper level is the family/dining room.  With hardwood floors, low lights, dark red velvet curtains, and large leather sofas, it definitely reminded me of somewhere a modern-day Dracula would hang out.  Something told me this wasn’t exactly the effect for which they were going for.

The crowd was small and included a varying age spectrum.  The wait staff was wonderful, very friendly and attentive.  The menu boasts an extensive wine list and the option of micro-dining.  Each dish on the micro-dining menu comes in three different sizes and prices to match the size of your party. The items on the menu are of Creole/Cajun/Asian fusion, however they failed to excite my taste buds.  The ribs were decent, the crabcake sliders were enjoyable, but the mahi-mahi tacos were the biggest disappointment.  The fish was bland and the corn tacos were not the best choice for the dish.  Overall, Social’s décor was on point, but in the kitchen they still have a lot of work to do before it becomes Columbia Heights’ newest hot spot.
