Despite the low scoring of Howard University’s (2-2) game against Winston Salem State University, (0-5) the Bison were still extremely ecstatic about their second win in a row, already surpassing their 1 and 10 record last season. Both teams had difficulty scoring early in the game, and it was both teams punters that helped the defenses hold off the other side.
Late in the second half Howard’s sophomore receiver Willie Carter with a 20 yard catch from senior quarterback Floyd Haigler, to make the score 7-0. Carter ended up finishing the game with 116 yards with seven receptions. The Bison defense was able to control the pace of the game all the way until the third quarter when WSSU’s punter Landen Thayer was able to kick a 43 yard field goal to make the score 7-3. But still the Bison defense prevailed. With stand out performances from Ian Simon, Martin Corniffe, Keith Pough, Will Croner, and Gerald Jackson the defense were able to hold off the WSSU offense to end the game. This is the first time since 2007 that the
Bison were able to win two games in a row. Next week the Bison take on their rivals Hampton University for the battle of the Real HU.
